When growing up, children are often asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. It is not often that you will hear a response of, “I want to be a real estate agent.” During my childhood I thought about being a civil engineer, a horse trainer and a police officer amongst other things, it wasn’t until after a stint in the military and working in various service industry jobs that I realized that real estate was where my heart was. Thanks to that discovery, I have now spent over two decades working in the real estate and mortgage industry.
What has two decades of experience allowed me to bring to the table? Good question. In the real estate business, no two deals are the same. The more you see the more you learn. Over the course of time, I have watched technology advance and change the real estate industry in numerous ways. I often think back to some of my first loan preapprovals that I received via a slow fax machine that spit out one page each minute. To think that this was considered quicker than making a phone call. The experiences that I have had sparked my interest in brokerage ownership and agent mentoring.
Agent mentoring and training is one of the aspects of this industry that keeps my spirit high and heart happy. Nothing is as satisfying as watching an agent spread their wings and experience success in this industry. Over the past decade I have focused my career on recruiting and training several people who dove headfirst into the real estate industry. I am proud to say that there are many of them that I now consider some of the best agents around. While impeccable work ethic and dedication to tasks are two things that cannot be taught, they are definitely required to experience long term success in the real estate industry.
So, two decades later I am glad to say that real estate is still my passion. I have learned that I will see many people enter this industry and exit shortly thereafter. It is an industry for the strong willed and dedicated individual that is willing to dedicate their time to ensure that their client is getting the service they deserve. It’s an industry that is not a good fit for all individuals but when it is your passion, there is nothing like it.
